Neck Massaeg

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on bringing deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue into alignment.

Helpful for treating chronic condtions

Unlike Normal full body massage, which is used for relaxation, Deep Tissue Massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Limited mobility
  • Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sports injury)
  • Repetitive strain injury (such as carpal tunnel syndrome)
  • Postural problems
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle tension or spasm.

Chronically tense, painful and contracted areas such as: stiff necks, lower back tightness and sore shoulders can also be much improved by Deep Tissue Massage.

The most important factor is that there is long-term change in the structure of the muscle which can create an increased degree of relaxation and cause alleviation from pain and improvement of painful conditions.

Causes of chronic muscle tension and pain When a person suffers from chronic muscle tension and pain, there are usually bands of painful and rigid muscles. Deep Tissue Massage works by physically breaking down these rigid bands that exist in muscles. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.

Working within the client’s pain threshold level

Within a session there are certain areas of the body that will feel especially painful and it will be difficult to tolerate pain in those areas. It is important to communicate your pain level to the massage therapist during a Deep Tissue Massage.
Deep Tissue Massage is not supposed to be a hard massage but merely a deep massage which can be very enjoyable and has many long lasting benefits.

During a session I work with a pressure scale of 1 to 10.  The ideal pressure is about 6 – at that point you can feel the muscle, as well as a slight pulling into one direction that is still bearable, and no other parts of the body tighten to withstand the pressure.

I may occasionally ask you to breathe deeply while I work on certain tense areas, breathing helps to cope with the pain and also to ease and relax you.

Deep Tissue Massage Techniques

Deep Tissue Massage strokes are performed predominately with knuckles, fists, forearms and elbows. In some cases the thumbs are also used. The pressure of a stroke is much greater than with normal massage and each stroke is performed very slowly.

Some of the same strokes used in classic massage therapy are used, but the movements are slower and the pressure is deeper and also concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

During your session I will use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms for the deep tissue massage. The movements are very slow to allow the muscle tissue to relax and lengthen.

Great results!

After the session you will feel a greater movement capacity and a deep sense of relaxation.
